According to a source, actress Amanda Bynes is set to remain locked in a psychiatric hospital for at least another 30 days.

Bynes has been under treatment for more than two weeks in a southern California hospital following a public meltdown, which included an alleged shoplifting incident at Barneys in Manhattan.

The former Nickelodeon star was placed on an involuntary 5150 medical hold at a Pasadena hospital on 10 October after claiming that a microchip in her brain led her to falsely accuse her father of s**ual abuse.

Doctors reportedly told the medical court judge overseeing her case that she is very ill and in no shape to care for herself.

It is unclear whether Bynes will remain on the 5150 hold or transferred to a long-term hold.

Bynes public meltdown began after she made several unsubstantiated claims on Twitter that her father Rick Bynes acted inappropriately around her.

Her mother and siblings rushed to her father’s defence, with her mother stating that her daughter’s statements had “no basis in reality” and were a byproduct of her mental breakdown.

Bynes made the claims on Twitter as her concerned parents planned an emergency trip to New York to get her psychiatric help.

Lawyer Tamar Arminak was able to intercept Bynes after her flight as part of a surprise intervention that ended with the psychiatric hold.

It has been over a year since Bynes parents first rushed to court to get a probate conservatorship a bid they later dropped because Bynes’ doctors decided on their own to seek a more iron-clad mental health conservatorship.

Rick and Lynn Bynes sought court intervention after Amanda set a gasoline fire in a random driveway around the corner from their house and injured her dog in the process.

She was placed under a strict mental health conservatorship and given a powerful drug cocktail to treat schizophrenia during months of in-patient treatment that ended last November.

Last year, the actress was accused of tossing a bong out of a Manhattan high-rise and starting a fire in a stranger’s driveway.

Her latest public unraveling came after her year-long medical conservatorship supervised by her mother ran out at the end of the summer.

Reports of her alarming behaviour started up again after she was caught driving under the influence (DUI) in Los Angeles on 28 September.

Cops allege she blew through a red light in the San Fernando Valley and stopped her Mercedes in the middle of an intersection.

She tested negative for alcohol but was visibly impaired during sobriety tests, cops said.

In February, Bynes scored a no-jail plea deal related to a prior 2012 California DUI case.

She pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of alcohol-related reckless driving and got three years of probation.

In July, a New York judge dismissed all charges against Bynes related to the 2013 bong-tossing bust.

She agreed to see a counsellor twice a week for six months as part of the conditional dismissal deal struck in January.

Bynes publicist has said that his client is fine and that she is justgetting some rest after her latest run-in with the law.

However, Bynes recent behaviour has led to questions about her mental state and her family have expressed concern that she may have been abusing drugs.

A source close to Bynes has said that the actress father is very concerned about his daughters recent behaviour, stating that she has never been in trouble before.
