Alec Baldwin has Frequently opposed the NRA and gun rights activists

Alec Baldwin, who killed a cinematographer on a movie set with a prop gun on Thursday, has a history of criticizing the National Rifle Association and other gun rights supporters.

Baldwin, 63, accidently shot Halyna Hutchins in what he described as a “tragic accident.” Director Joel Souza was also taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Souza has now been released.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement to the Associated Press that no charges have been filed yet.

Following the event, many in Hollywood and the entertainment industry have called for the use of gun blanks to be banned.

For many years, the 63-year-old actor has been a proponent of gun regulation.

Baldwin joined the No Rifle Association (NoRA) celebrity alliance in 2018, with the purpose of exposing the National Rifle Association’s purported control on the US government.

The organization sought to limit the NRA’s power through increasing voter registration, demonstrations, and boycotts.

In a 2018 letter to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, the NoRA Initiative said, “We’re going to shine a bright light on what you and your organization do to America. We’re going to make sure the whole world sees your bloody hands. We’re coming for your money. We’re coming for your puppets. And we’re going to win.”

In the same year, Baldwin got into a verbal spat with Dana Loesch, the NRA’s spokesman at the time.

In 2018, Baldwin tweeted, “I see that @DLoesch wants to ‘take back the truth.'”

“And she doesn’t care how many dead bodies she has to step over in that pursuit. The Second Amendment is not a moral credit card that buys you all the guns you want,” he wrote. “That law needs to be rethought.”

“After all the crazy s*** Alec Baldwin has said to and about me, I’m going to have more grace than him right now and leave it at that,” Loesch tweeted about Hutchins’ death on Thursday.

Baldwin issued a statement following the incident on Thursday, saying his “heart is broken.”

Baldwin wrote on Friday, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”

“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred, and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son and all who knew and loved Halyna,” he concluded.
