Adele felt ‘frightened’ to make new music after 5 years

Adele has spoken up about her feelings following the release of her first song in five years.

Adele reveals she was “frightened” to write new songs for her next album 30 but is “really proud” of the stuff she produced.

She also claimed that while she was going through a divorce and “inner turmoil,” she had “lost sight” of producing music, but that it helped her come to grips with how she was feeling.

“It was bloody hard work to make. I was singing things I didn’t even realise I was feeling or thinking,” she explained, “but I’m really proud of it.”

“I can’t unlock a key to the door with my mental health and take it with me, I’ve got to leave it in the door for everyone else… I’m in a strong place to put that vulnerability out… I’m really proud of it.

Adele told James, “I definitely feel like I lost sight of and lost the appreciation of what a gift it is to be into music and be able to make it. I think I got a bit frightened of it for a while and it really, really took care of me big time. Not just making this record, my own record, but diving back into old records of other people’s that I loved, discovering new artists on SoundCloud or whatever. It brought so much joy to my life being able to listen to music and wail at the top of my lungs along to me own bloody songs as I was writing them.”

“I don’t know what my outlet would have been had I not had it… It was bloody hard work to make emotionally.”

While writing the songs for 30, Adele acknowledged to one of the album’s producers for pushing her to go deeper into her emotions.

‘It would start with five, six hour therapy sessions and he would get a feeling out of me that I had no idea was even in me; and then I’d leave at the end of the day with a song about that feeling,’ she explained.

The singer also stated that she understood she had to share the project with the world in order for others to be able to heal from their own pain.

Adele explained, “I was singing things I didn’t even realize I was feeling or thinking. But I’m really, really proud of it and I feel like I can’t unlock a door for my own mental health and take the key with me. I’ve got to leave it in the door for everyone else and I’m in a strong place now where I feel like I can put that vulnerability out.”

Adele recently held an Instagram interactive session with her followers in which she chatted with them. She started working on her record three years ago, according to People. Two years after they originally split, the singer and her ex-husband Simon Konecki made their divorce public in March. The singer stated that she relies on ‘routine and consistency’ in order to feel secure. When she started working on her record, though, the singer did the exact opposite, throwing herself into work and into a “maze of absolute mess and inner turmoil.” Adele stated that while working on her album, she learned a lot about herself and is now ready and comfortable to unleash it into the public.
