Actress reveals “p-rn and s-x addiction”

Andra Day has revealed that she struggled with p-rn and s-x addiction before playing Billie Holiday in Lee Daniels’ biopic The United States vs. Billie Holiday.

In an interview with InStyle, Day explained that she didn’t want to be s-xualised in the film and wanted to keep the focus on the music, despite Holliday’s objectification in the music industry from the 1930s to the 1950s.

“I had come out of something in my own life — dealing with p-rn addiction, s-x addiction.

I’m being very, very candid with you because I’m not the only one.

But I knew I wanted all of that very much gone,” Day said. “I feel now, after playing Billie, that I’m honouring her, and the strength that is femininity.”

Day, who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role in the film, said that she is now in a healthier place to enjoy her femininity.

“I’m definitely in a healthier place to enjoy that because I’m outside of the addiction, if you will. So, yeah, it’s been really fun, because it’s been very new for me.”

The United States vs. Billie Holiday tells the story of how Holiday was targeted by the Federal Department of Narcotics for her drug use, which they believed was encouraging black people to protest against the government.

In a four-star review of the film, NME praised Day’s performance, saying that she “embodies, rather than impersonates, this great figure of the 20th century.”

Day’s portrayal of Holiday was praised for being pitch-perfect and for her ability to embody the character. “Andra Day is extraordinary in her first real acting role. It’s a pitch-perfect performance,” wrote NME.

Day’s performance helped the film become a hit, earning her critical acclaim and commercial success.

Although she didn’t win the Best Actress award, Day’s portrayal of Holiday is considered to be one of the most memorable performances of the year.

“I didn’t want any element of s-xualisation. I had come out of something in my own life — dealing with p-rn addiction, s-x addiction,” Day explained.

“I’m being very, very candid with you because I’m not the only one.”

She said that by focusing on the music, she was able to honour Holliday and the strength of femininity.

Day’s candour about her past struggles with addiction has resonated with many people, who have praised her for her honesty and bravery.

“I think it’s really important to be able to share your struggles with other people,” Day said.

“It makes you feel less alone, and it can help other people who are going through similar things.”

Day’s honesty about her struggles with addiction and her determination to portray Holliday in a respectful way have made her a role model for many people.

Her performance in The United States vs. Billie Holliday is likely to be remembered for years to come as one of the best portrayals of a music icon in film history.
