Actor James Van Der Beek says he was sexually assaulted

James Van Der Beek, the former star of “Dawson’s Creek,” has joined the list of actors who have come forward to share their experiences of sexual assault in Hollywood.

The 40-year-old actor took to Twitter to discuss his own encounter, expressing empathy for the women who have suffered “unwarranted shame” for not speaking up earlier in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Van Der Beek condemned Weinstein’s actions, tweeting, “What Weinstein is being accused of is criminal. What he’s admitted to is unacceptable – in any industry. I applaud everybody speaking out.”

He went on to recount his own experiences, saying, “I’ve had my a– grabbed by older, powerful men. I’ve had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger.”

He added that he understood “the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle,” and acknowledged the difficult power dynamics at play in such situations.

Weinstein has faced accusations from multiple women of sexual harassment and, in some instances, assault.

He was subsequently fired by the board of The Weinstein Co. after the allegations became public.

A statement from Weinstein’s representative claimed, “Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual.”

The statement also mentioned that Weinstein was attending counseling and seeking a “better path,” hoping for a second chance if he showed progress.

Despite this, Weinstein admitted in an ABC News-obtained video that he needed help, and reportedly checked himself into a rehab clinic to address behavioral issues, including s-x addiction.

Van Der Beek is not the only actor to discuss male-on-male sexual assault.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Terry Crews shared on Twitter that he was sexually assaulted at a Hollywood event last year by a high-ranking executive.

Crews tweeted about the incident, saying, “Jumping back I said, ‘What are you doing?!’ My wife saw everything and we looked at him like he was crazy. He just grinned like a jerk.”

Numerous actors and actresses have denounced Weinstein’s alleged conduct, which was first reported by The New York Times and The New Yorker magazine.

Weinstein’s attorney, Charles Harder, claimed last week that the initial New York Times story was filled with “false and defamatory statements,” and announced plans to file a lawsuit against the newspaper.
