Casey Affleck Settles Sexual Harassment Cases

Casey Affleck resolved sexual harassment charges with two women who claimed he made unwanted advances during the production of I’m Still Here, the “documentary” starring Joaquin Phoenix.

In July, Affleck was sued by cinematographer Magdalena Gorka and producer Amanda White for $2.25 million (£1.45 million) and $2 million (£1.3 million), respectively.

The two ladies made claims of unwelcome sexual approaches and working in a hostile environment, among other things.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “The disputes between Flemmy Productions, LLC and Casey Affleck with Amanda White and Magdalena Gorka in connection with the film I’m Still Here have been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties and the lawsuits are being dismissed.”

The settlement’s financial specifics were not made public. Despite having departed due to a difficult work environment, producer White and cinematographer Gorka will be given credit for their efforts on the film.

White was the first to sue Affleck and his production business, Flemmy Productions, alleging that she was subjected to obscene behavior on site.

According to E! Online, she recounted a specific incident in which Affleck reportedly paid hookers to show up and harass her and Gorka.

Gorka, the other complainant, came forward to verify White’s tale and give a list of her own complaints.

Gorka alleged in her lawsuit that when the group was filming in New York City, Affleck came into her bed without her permission one evening.

The charges were disputed by Affleck’s attorneys, who claimed they were part of a plot to extort money from him.

After that, Affleck recruited lawyer Marty Singer and a crisis communications team to forcefully defend him and his production company, Flemmy Prods.

The two parties allegedly attended a private mediation a few weeks ago, which resulted in the settlement.

I’m Still Here, Affleck’s documentary on his brother-in-law’s transformation from A-list actor to hip-hop star bum, premiered to mixed reviews at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month. Critics are split on whether the film should be considered a documentary or a piece of Kaufmanesque performance art. According to the New York Times, Phoenix’s acting agents have been pitching him for roles in recent weeks, implying that the latter is the case. The film will be released in the United Kingdom this weekend.
