Brad Pitt recalls ‘threatening to kill’ Harvey Weinstein after Gwyneth Paltrow assault
Brad Pitt opened up to CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour this week about confronting Harvey Weinstein in 1995 after discovering the indie film producer had sexually harassed Pitt’s then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow. Pitt informed Amanpour that because of how he was raised as a child, he was acting on instinct. Paltrow said on “The Howard Stern Show” in May 2018 that Pitt approached Weinstein at the 1995 Broadway premiere of “Hamlet” and told him, “If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you.”
After Paltrow claimed that the disgraced producer inappropriately placed his hands on her during a “work meeting” in a Los Angeles hotel, the actor said he “wanted to make sure nothing was going to happen further.”
Pitt told Amanpour of standing up for Paltrow and confronting Weinstein: “At that moment, I was just a boy from the Ozarks on the playground and that’s how we confronted things. I just wanted to make sure nothing was going to happen further, because Paltrow was going to do two [more] films [with Weinstein]. I think the interesting thing is that we, Hollywood specifically, but the workplace, men and women’s dynamics is being recalibrated, recalibrated in a very good way that is long overdue. And I do think that’s an important story to tell.”
Paltrow first revealed this story on The Howard Stern Show last year, following up on details she’d shared with The New York Times the year before. She described how Weinstein attempted to leverage control over her career, circa Emma, into his tried, tested, and disgusting strategy of enticing young actors to engage in sexual activity with him in the New York Times piece. He invited the actress to a “work meeting” in his hotel room at the Peninsula Beverly Hills.

Weinstein allegedly put his hands on Paltrow and suggested they go to the bedroom for a massage, according to Paltrow. Paltrow remarked in May 2018 about the event. “It was weird. I was alone in a room with him. It was out of the blue. I was shocked ,” she said.
She told Pitt about what allegedly occurred at the time, claiming that the actor confronted Weinstein and instructed him not to touch Paltrow ever again. “I told him right away and I was very shaken by the whole thing. We were at the opening of Hamlet on Broadway. Harvey was there and Brad Pitt — it was like the equivalent of throwing him against the wall, energetically,” she added.
Paltrow expressed her gratitude for the gesture by saying, “It was so fantastic because what he did was, he leveraged his fame and power to protect me at a time when I didn’t have fame or power yet. He’s the best.”
Weinstein is scheduled to stand trial in January 2020 on charges of rape, predatory sexual assault, and criminal sexual act, all of which are based on allegations made by two women.
Pitt is back in theaters this weekend with “Ad Astra,” his second studio picture of the year after Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Pitt is expected to be nominated for an Academy Award for his supporting role in the latter.
