Heidi Montag’s name evokes memories of her feud with Lauren Conrad over Spencer Pratt on The Hills, and that time she had 10 plastic surgery surgeries in one day.

Though many of the headlines mocked Montag, who was dubbed one of the ultimate reality TV villains of the early aughts alongside husband Spencer Pratt, Montag said in a recent Paper Magazine story that the surgeries were no laughing matter.

Heidi told Paper Magazine, “Spencer thought he lost me. I died for a minute. With that much surgery, I had to have 24-hour nurse care and Spencer didn’t want to leave my side. I was at a recovery center and had Demerol [a highly addictive narcotic] to deal with the pain because it was so extreme.”

“My security guards called Spencer and told him, ‘Heidi’s heart stopped. She’s not going to make it.’

“And I easily could’ve. Cutting yourself up isn’t something I’d recommend, and Demerol isn’t anything to play around with. That’s how Michael Jackson died.”

Before his death in 2009, Jackson apparently had frequent Demerol injections from his dermatologist, but his cause of death was judged to be acute propofol and benzodiazepine overdose.

According to People magazine, Heidi had a mini brow lift, botox in the forehead and frown lines, a nose job revision, liposuction on the hips, waist, inner thighs, and neck, fat injections in the cheeks, lips, and nasolabial folds (the lines between the nose and the outer corners of the mouth), chin reduction, ears pinned back, breast augmentation revision, and butt augmentation.

The 31-year-old, who is now the mother to 6-month-old Gunner, said the terrifying event provided her a new perspective. “A lot of positive things came out of that,” she remarked. “I had to look at myself in the mirror every day healing, and be like, ‘What did I do to myself? How did I get here? What is going on?’ I basically had to hit that rock-bottom moment in my life to realize what was important to me.”

Her singing career was “what was important to me” at the time. But even the greatest songwriters and producers (including David Foster and writers who have written hits for Britney Spears and Rihanna) couldn’t get Speidi’s career off the ground.

Heidi and Spencer are now enjoying life to the fullest with their adorably adorable new baby, and everything appears to be going pretty smoothly, as everyone who follows Spencer on Twitter knows.
