The tale of Channing Tatum’s ascension to stardom is now Hollywood legend: He began his career as a male stripper before moving on to modeling and then acting, and the rest is history. Tatum has subsequently been quite open about his past—his experiences inspired the film Magic Mike—but you’d think he would’ve waited a few dates before telling now-wife Jenna Dewan Tatum about it. But you’d be mistaken.

Channing, 37, spoke with ET’s Lauren Zima at the premiere of War Dog: A Soldier’s Best Friend on Monday night about how he disclosed his prior career as a male dancer to his then-future spouse.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight broadcast on Tuesday, November 7, he said, “I think it was one of the very first, like, dinners we ever had together. I don’t know. I’m not shy about it. She was just like, ‘What?’ She needed to know just like everybody.”

The singer acknowledged that his future wife was unfazed by the discovery.

“Weirdly enough, girls ask fewer questions then guys do. Guys want to know everything about it like what, how much, when, were you naked?” he said.

When Tatum’s buddy and co-producer of Magic Mike and War Dog, Reid Carolin, asked how much money Tatum made as a dancer, the actor joked, “For what I was doing for the dollar, not enough of the dollars.”

The 37-year-old actor was seen on the red carpet with his wife of 8 years, and couldn’t stop gushing over her. “She’s gorgeous.” He said, “Look at her!”

Tatum and Dewan Tatum have always been quite candid about the ups and downs of their ten-year relationship. The World of Dance instructor revealed to Ellen DeGeneres earlier this year that her now-husband proposed to her when she was dressed in an…interesting costume. “He had gone out with all of the dancers on Step Up and had this crazy wild tequila night, and he said he had the chance ‘to be free’ and he couldn’t stop thinking about me,” she explained. “So he comes down to my hotel room at two in the morning, and he’s banging on the door, and I’m like, ‘What is going on?’ And I go and open the door and he’s in a sombrero, he’s naked—no, sorry, he has underwear—underwear, sombrero, and Ugg boots, and he’s like, ‘Let’s do this.'”

Channing recently appeared as a guest presenter on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he fooled Everly, the couple’s 4-year-old daughter, into believing he had eaten all of her Halloween candy.

He joked, “That’s one of those wounds that will come back in years. Kids are really quick to forgive, but I think probably around 13 it’ll come back, and she’ll make me pay then.”
