Miley Cyrus says she ‘felt sexualised’ after twerking on Robin Thicke

Miley Cyrus claims that twerking on Robin Thicke during her notorious 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance of ‘Blurred Lines’ made her feel sexualized.

During the performance, the singer wore a latex bra and leggings and rubbed herself against Robin while sticking her tongue out.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Cyrus discussed the event, stating that it made her feel ‘sexualized,’ but that people shouldn’t have been shocked.

She stated of the provocative dresses that typified her style from 2013 to 2015, “It became something that was expected of me. I didn’t want to show up to photo shoots and be the girl who would get my tits out and stick out my tongue. In the beginning, it was kind of like saying, ‘F*** you. Girls should be able to have this freedom or whatever.’ But it got to a point where I did feel sexualized.”

This is a shocking admission from Cyrus, who has always appeared to be in complete control of the sexual imagery she broadcasts. After all, the only way a pop star’s sexuality can be liberating (rather than humiliating) is for them to do everything on their own terms. Things start to get blurry the moment you lose control (even a smidgeon). And it appears that this is what happened to Cyrus: she felt compelled to be aggressively sexual and outlandish.

For the premiere of her new single, Malibu, Miley Cyrus, 24, has changed her look yet again.

In comparison to her Bangerz days, she’s given her songs a more country flavor and adopted a more traditional look.

“People were so shocked by some of the things that I did… It should be more shocking that when I was 11 or 12, I was put in full hair and makeup, a wig, and told what to wear by a group of mostly older men.

“It’s no wonder that a lot of people lose their way and lose who they really are because they always have people telling them who to be.”

“It’s really scary sometimes, someone saying, ‘This is who I am’… I heard so many comments like, ‘We just want Miley back.’ But you can’t tell me who that is. I’m right here.”

Cyrus is quick to point out that her current style, which includes minimum makeup and soft sweaters like the ones she wears in the Harper’s Bazaar feature, isn’t the “real Miley” any more than her 2013 MTV VMA ensemble was. It’s simply a better reflection of who she is now.

She told the magazine, “I’m not saying I’ve never been myself. Who I was on the last record was really who I am. It’s just myself has been a lot of different people because I change a lot. … People get told that it’s a bad thing to change. Like, people will say, ‘You’ve changed.’ And that’s supposed to be derogatory. But you are supposed to change all the time.”

In the interview, Cyrus also claims to have quit using marijuana and that being dressed these days is more radical.

“Even at the Met Gala, everyone had their boobs out, everyone had their ass out, so what’s punk about that now? It’s more punk actually for me to not.”
