Demi Moore says she was raped aged 15 for $500

Demi Moore alleges she was raped in her house at the age of 15 by a man who claimed to have paid her mother $500.

During a candid televised appearance to publicize her memoir, the Hollywood star, 56, made the claim.

Moore, who was one of the most popular actresses of the 1990s with roles in films such as Ghost, A Few Good Men, and Indecent Proposal, said she was assaulted by an older guy who knew her mother.

In a voiceover from a Monday “Good Morning America” interview, host Diane Sawyer claims Moore was “taken by her mother to bars, so that men will notice them. She’s 15 when she comes home one night and an older man they know is in the apartment with the key.”

Moore claims that after he raped her, he told her that her mother had sold her to him. “It was rape,” she says in the book. “And a devastating betrayal, revealed by the man’s cruel question: how does it feel to be whored by your mother for $500?”

Moore’s mother was an alcoholic, as she admits in the book. When asked if she believed the man, she said, “I think, in my deep heart, no. I don’t think it was a straight forward transaction. But she still did give him the access, and put me in harm’s way.”

Her book was dedicated to her mother as well as her three kids with ex-husband Bruce Willis.

Moore also stated that her mother attempted suicide when she was 12 years old, and that it was her intervention that saved her life. “I remember using my fingers, the small fingers of a child, to dig the pills my mother had tried to swallow, out of her mouth,” Moore writes in the book.

But this was only one of “many, many times” she’d saved her mother from suicide.

“[My childhood] was done,” Moore said. “[It was a] life-changing moment.”

Moore discusses her previous experiences with substance misuse in the book; she went to treatment for drug and alcohol addiction in the mid-1980s. She  talked about how her life began to fall apart again around 2012, when her marriage to Ashton Kutcher fell apart, her children stopped speaking to her, and she weighed 102 pounds. According to the New York Times, she collapsed at a party and was hospitalized after inhaling nitrous oxide and using synthetic cannabis.

“I guess the fundamental question that came forward for me was, how did I get here?” she told Sawyer. “I blinded myself, and I lost myself.”

Moore also spoke about her rise to the top of Hollywood.

She rose to national fame with roles in films such as Blame It On Rio and St Elmo’s Fire, before her breakthrough performance in the 1990 romantic thriller Ghost, with the late Patrick Swayze, sealed her place as one of the world’s top actors.

After becoming the highest-paid female actor in Hollywood, critics dubbed her “Gimme Moore,” but Moore remained unconcerned. “Why shouldn’t all women be paid equal to the quality of the work they’re doing? Just treat me the same. No better, no worse”, she said. – PA
