Miley Cyrus Retracts Apology for posing nude in Vanity Fair at age 15

Miley Cyrus was posting happy flashback photos on Sunday (April 29) when she revived a 10-year-old incident for which she had previously expressed remorse. She’s now retracting her apologies.

The singer and former Hannah Montana star tweeted a throwback snapshot of a 2008 New York Post cover with the bold print phrase “MILEY’S SHAME.” “TV’s ‘Hannah’ apologizes for near-nude pic,” the lead reads.

Cyrus tweeted the image, writing, “I’M NOT SORRY F**K YOU #10yearsago.”

The then-15-year-old was photographed by Annie Leibovitz with her back exposed and what seems to be a sheet covering her front. “I mean I had a big blanket on. And I thought, This looks pretty, and really natural. I think it’s really artsy,” Cyrus remarked when asked about the shot for the Vanity Fair story.

Cyrus did offer an apology after the media storm, as Disney sought to safeguard her clean image.

Miley had this to say about it: “I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic,’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”

“I’m sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted,” Leibovitz said at the time, adding, “Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together, and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little make-up, and I think it is very beautiful.”

Teen star Miley Cyrus apologized to her fans for this and other photos from her Vanity Fair shoot, which famed photographer Annie Leibovitz defended as ‘beautiful.’

The Disney Channel also issued a comment, stating, “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.” Vanity Fair, on the other hand, objected at the time. The magazine’s spokeswoman informed The New York Times that Miley’s parents and/or minders were on set all day and were aware of what was being shot: “Miley’s parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley.”

Miley has gone on to appear fully nude in her music video for ‘Wrecking Ball,’ shock with her racy red carpet ensembles, and gain likes on social media in various stages of exposure since leaving Disney.

Cyrus was just posting sweet childhood images of herself “being extra AF” and “feeling myself” before bringing any of this up.
