Eva Green Wins $1 Million Fee in Lawsuit Over Scrapped ‘B-Movie’
Actress Eva Green has won a $1 million fee in a lawsuit over a sci-fi movie called A Patriot that was canceled in 2019.
Green sued White Lantern Films and SMC Specialty Finance, arguing that she was entitled to compensation under a “pay or play” contract, even though the film was never made.
She claimed that the project was going to be a “B-movie” and that she was being used as a scapegoat by the producers, who were trying to cover up their own mistakes.
In response, White Lantern Films and SMC Specialty Finance denied allegations of “gender-based bullying” and said they are considering an appeal.
The judge dismissed a counterclaim that Green had breached her contract and ruined the project with “excessive creative and financial demands.”

Green took to Instagram in a lengthy statement to express her pride in standing up against the “bully-boy tactics” of a small group of men who tried to use her as a scapegoat.
While criticizing media outlets for misrepresenting her desire to make the best possible film as “female hysteria,” she also defended the beautiful film that she loved and had signed on for.
During the case, several of Green’s private WhatsApp messages about A Patriot were revealed in court.
In these messages, she referred to the production as a “B-shitty-movie,” referenced “shitty peasant crew members,” called executive producer a “devious sociopath” and “pure vomit,” and said a production manager was a “moron.”
Justice Michael Green was reportedly not convinced by Green’s explanation that the harsh messages were due to her “Frenchness,” but ultimately concluded that she did not breach her artist agreement and that most of her evidence was credible and fitted with her general commitment to the film.
Despite the victory, Green’s reputation has taken a hit due to the leaked WhatsApp messages, which painted her in a negative light.
However, the judge’s ruling has shown that she was within her rights to sue for compensation under her contract.
This case highlights the importance of having clear and concise contracts in the entertainment industry.
It also sheds light on the power dynamics at play, where actors and actresses can be used as scapegoats for a project’s failure, and how media outlets can misrepresent their actions.
