Emma Thompson talks about the ‘challenge’ of shooting full-frontal n^de scenes ‘at the age that I am’

Emma Thompson, the 62-year-old Academy Award-winning actress, has revealed how “challenging” it was to shoot n^de scenes in her new movie, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.

The newly released comedy features Thompson as Nancy, a retired religious education teacher who hires a s** worker to experience her first orgasm.

Before the film’s release on 17 June, Thompson spoke about rehearsing “entirely nude” and filming a full-frontal scene.

She described one scene where her character “stands in front of a mirror alone and drops her robe”.

The actor shared her decision to appear n^ked in the movie was difficult because of her age.

“It’s very challenging to be n^de at 62,” she said.

“I don’t think I could’ve done it before the age that I am.

And yet, of course, the age that I am makes it extremely challenging because we aren’t used to seeing untreated bodies on the screen.” Thompson plays opposite Peaky Blinders’ Daryl McCormack in the movie, which will be released later this year.

Thompson also shared her opinions on the “dreadful demands” put on women both in the real world and in acting, saying that “nothing has changed in the dreadful demands made upon women in the real world but also in acting”.

She added that the pressure on women to be thin is “still the same as it ever was, and actually in some ways I think it’s worse now”.

Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is a comedy that explores themes of loneliness and ageing, and the relationship between older women and younger men.

The Independent’s four-star review of the film called it an “oddly delightful affair” that “handles its provocative subject matter with a great deal of sensitivity and maturity.”

Recently, Thompson also spoke out about Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard and its potential impact on the #MeToo movement.

She said the case was a “distraction” and that people should “keep their focus on the systemic problems that we’re facing”.

Thompson’s acting career spans over three decades, and she is known for her roles in films such as Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually, and Saving Mr Banks.

She has also worked as a screenwriter and producer, and is an outspoken activist for environmental and humanitarian causes.
