Kim Kardashian ‘couldn’t see’ sister Kendall Jenner in THAT viral photo from the Met Gala

Kim Kardashian’s head-to-toe black Balenciaga bodysuit was the most talked-about look at the Met Gala, whether you liked it or not. Kim’s outfit sparked a slew of memes, including one of her and sister Kendall Jenner’s awkward red carpet moment, in addition to debates over whether it fit the night’s theme.

Kendall is seen laughing at Kim, who appears slightly disoriented in her masked bodysuit, in one photo, and the reason for this makes perfect sense.

Kim recently shared how it felt to wear a full-face black mask, as well as a Balenciaga t-shirt dress and spandex leggings, in the viral photo.

Kardashian West said on her Instagram Story, “Kendall was calling my name and I couldn’t see who it was but I saw the outline of her sparkly dress 😭.”

Fans, predictably, jumped on Kim’s latest revelation, creating more memes depicting Kim’s point of view on the night. Kim re-shared one tweet with a laughing emoji on her Instagram Stories, so we’re taking that as a sign that, yes, the meme in question is pretty accurate.

One Twitter user joked, ‘Kendall it’s me!’, ‘Who?’ after seeing the photo.

‘Was this Kendall’s first time seeing your Met Gala outfit?’ wondered another.

‘Kim: I thought we agreed on matching outfits!’ wrote another.

Kim defended herself earlier this week against critics who claimed her outfit didn’t fit the Met Gala’s theme of American Independence. “What’s more American than a T-shirt head to toe?!,” she countered with a photo of her ensemble, which included a black jersey cowl, a bodysuit, matching boots and gloves, and “pantaleggings.”

Kim’s outfit, which was inspired by her estranged husband Kanye West, was one of the biggest stories on fashion’s biggest night.

Jenner’s look was the polar opposite of Kim’s. She looked stunning in a crystal-encrusted Givenchy Haute Couture gown. The plunging gown was worn over a nude corset bodysuit.

Her gown was inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s famous Givenchy gown from My Fair Lady’s crucial ball scene.

Meanwhile, Kardashian West made headlines when she walked the red carpet with an unidentified man dressed entirely in black. Many assumed the mysterious guest was the star’s ex-husband Kanye West, but it was eventually revealed that the evening’s guest was Balenciaga’s Creative Director Demna Gvasalia.

“Even though Kanye is not attending tonight, his presence will be felt on the carpet,” a source told PEOPLE. “It was Kanye who introduced Kim to Demna and was instrumental in the newly formed relationship between her and Balenciaga.”

Kanye West, Kim’s estranged husband, chose to forgo the event, but his presence was felt anyway.
