Kate Winslet didn’t want sex scene in ‘Titanic’ to end

While Winslet and DiCaprio were not romantically involved behind the scenes, Winslet enjoyed filming the sex scene between Jack and Rose with DiCaprio.

Winslet confessed to Rolling Stone that she was disappointed that it had to come to an end, saying:

“Doing that scene it so wasn’t us. And yet we were so locked into what all that had to be about. The Rose in me was really sort of loving the Jack in him, actually. And even though I didn’t feel that way about Leo, it was quite nice to sort of feel that way in the scene. It was quite lovely. And then, y’know, the camera stopped rolling, and he gets up and walks off, and the scene’s done. And I remember lying there thinking, ‘What a shame that’s over.’ Because it was quite nice. It was.”

Winslet described her friendship with DiCaprio.

“We were kind of the two goofy kids on the set,” she said. “Y’know, working with Leonardo DiCaprio — he’s a bit gorgeous, and I was worried that I was going to be bowled over by him, or that he was going to find me all stuffy and Shakespearean and English. But the second we met, we just completely clicked.”

DiCaprio agreed, telling Rolling Stone, “She was my best friend for seven months.”

Despite the fact that Winslet and DiCaprio have stated that they did not hook up in real life, they have talked sex. During the production of Titanic, Winslet told Rolling Stone that the two actors would snuggle beneath a blanket and swap sex advice.

“You know, some very, very personal things, asking each other for advice,” she said. “Not necessarily comparing notes but sort of, ‘No, don’t do it like that, do it like this.’ He’s very good at that. I have to say, a lot of those sexual tips he’s given me have worked. And I know it’s vice versa.”

In a new interview, Kate Winslet discussed her unusual relationship with Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Winslet, 45, told Rolling Stone that she and DiCapio, 46, exchanged sex advice while filming the 1997 picture. She also gushed about their hot sex session in the Renault touring vehicle, calling it “nice.”

Winslet and DiCaprio, according to the news site, would scoff at rumor columns that indicated they were dating.

According to Rolling Stone, Winslet said, “Just the notion of that was insane – it would have been absolutely like incest.”

“I have the relationship with Leo that all the women in the world would envy.”

The costars would chat about personal details regarding sex in DiCaprio’s trailer during their leisure.

Winslet told the newspaper, “You know, some very, very personal things, asking each other for advice. Not necessarily comparing notes but sort of, ‘No, don’t do it like that, do it like this.’ He’s very good at that. I have to say, a lot of those sexual tips he’s given me have worked. And I know it’s vice versa.”

The chemistry off screen may have been purely platonic, but during filming Winslet couldn’t deny her character Rose and DiCaprio’s Jack shared a spark during that famous, steamy car scene. Picture: Getty

When asked whether she had any advice for other women, Winslet kept mum. However, all she said was that their recommendations were “too despicable” and “really graphic.”

Later in the interview, Winslet said that the Titanic sex scene between the characters Jack and Rose was so unlike DiCaprio and her that she still enjoyed it.

“Doing that scene, it so wasn’t us. And yet we were so locked into what all that had to be about. The Rose in me was really sort of loving the Jack in him, actually,” Winslet said. “And even though I didn’t feel that way about Leo, it was quite nice to sort of feel that way in the scene. It was quite lovely.”

According to Winslet, DiCaprio stood up straight away and walked away once the camera stopped filming.

“And I remember lying there thinking, ‘What a shame that’s over.’ Because it was quite nice,” she recalled.

In 2017, Winslet disclosed additional Titanic mysteries. She told Stephen Colbert on The Late Show that DiCaprio wasn’t her first choice for the role of Jack. Matthew McConaughey was supposed to play the lead instead.

“I auditioned with Matthew, isn’t that weird?” Winslet told Colbert. “Never said that in public before. I auditioned with Matthew, which was completely fantastic. It just wouldn’t have been the whole, Jack and Rose, Kate and Leo thing.”

The Academy Award-winning picture has been out on the big screen for 23 years. On December 19, 2021, the Titanic will celebrate its 24th anniversary.

This comes only days after Winslet spoke out about her post-Titanic career downturn.

“I was playing an American for the first time. And working with Leo, who I’d seen in ‘[What’s Eating] Gilbert Grape’ and ‘Basketball Diaries.’ So it was like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m Kate from Reading,’” she explained, according to Fox News. “I was the overweight girl who would always be at the end of the line. And because my name was a W, sometimes I wouldn’t even get in the door of the audition because they’d run out of time before the Ws. And I was in ‘Titanic.’ It’s mad.”

According to IMDbPro’s Box Office Mojo, the film grossed more than $2.1 billion worldwide since its first release.
