Daniel Radcliffe said he was ‘an absolute dick’ about Ron and Hermione kissing scene

Emma Watson says Ron and Hermione’s major kissing sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 was “the most horrifying thing anyone one of us had to go through.” Daniel Radcliffe admits to being “an absolute dick” in the build-up to the sequence, which added to the horror.

During the reunion special ‘Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,’ Radcliffe, Watson, and Rupert Grint recounted that incident.

“I didn’t create this higher as a result of I have been told considerably that I was being an absolute dick concerning this and was like, ‘I’m gonna return on set and watch you guys kiss,” Radcliffe recalls. “I’m sorry about this, guys.”

“Everyone wanted to be on set for it because everyone was like, ‘This is gonna be good guys’,” Emma explained. “I knew I was going to have to be the one to make this happen. I needed momentum into the kiss in order to do it… It just felt wrong, so wrong on every level because Dan, Rupert and I are so much siblings. All three of us felt so matched in how much it meant to us.”

“Kinda think I blacked out,” Grint said. “I just remember your face getting closer and closer to mine.”

In a similar vein, Emma Watson has acknowledged that she “fell in love” with co-star Tom Felton, despite the fact that no romance ever blossomed between them.

In “Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” Radcliffe and Watson enjoyed an on-screen kiss as part of an illusion conjured up by another of Voldemort’s Horcruxes. In 2010, Grint told The Seattle Times that he was on set for the kiss but was kicked off by Watson because he “kept laughing.”

During a tense scene in Deathly Hallows — Part 2, while the protagonists are in the Chamber of Secrets, Ron and Hermione eventually lock lips. With Ron’s help, Hermione uses a basilisk fang to destroy one of the last surviving Horcruxes, causing a magical flood of water to fall down on them. When they realize they’ve made it, they express their long-simmering love for one another.

It wasn’t just Radcliffe who wanted to come to set and see the occasion, according to Watson. It seemed like a major thing to everyone.

“I knew I was gonna have to be the one to make this thing happen because Rupert was not gonna. So, I just had to go for it. I needed, like, momentum into the kiss in order to do it,” she said.

She “took no prisoners,” director David Yates said.
