Rod Stewart patrols London streets at night to make sure police officer wife Penny is safe while at work

Rod Stewart has said that he ‘can’t sleep’ until he knows his wife, Special Constable Penny Lancaster, has completed her work patrolling London’s streets.

Rod sends a vehicle to pick up Penny, 50, when her shift closes every night, and he even patrols the streets himself to keep an eye on his hardworking wife.

‘I took my Rolls-Royce through the area [London bridge] the other night,’ he told The Sun, adding that he had driven around Penny’s beat personally.

Rod’s wife has been a Special Constable with the City of London Police since April, when she received her badge.

After participating in Channel 4’s 2019 series, Famous and Fighting Crime, in which celebrities observed police officers on the beat, she was encouraged to pursue training.

Rod also described how Penny was engaged in a narcotics bust at Liverpool Street Station on a Friday night.

“Her team and their dogs were waiting at the bottom of the escalators. They were nicking them (the dealers) as they tried to escape.”

Rod even revealed some of his wife’s most terrifying work experiences, telling the publication that she not only talked someone out of jumping from a bridge, but also had someone’s Lamborghini hauled away after finding out the driver had the wrong license.

“She loves London and wants to look after the city and the people in it,” Penny’s delighted husband Rod remarked, lifting the curtain on Penny’s hard work.

Penny stated why she felt driven to become a Special Constable earlier.

“I did it initially as a TV show a couple of years ago working with the Peterborough police, and I just love the experience so much.

“It’s that sense of giving back and feeling how lucky we are, we want to do something, but it never feels enough.

“Somehow, working with the police, you feel like you will make a difference every day if it’s tangible, you have got your feet on the ground, you are interacting with the public, you are dealing with whatever comes your way,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Rod discussed his new album, The Tears of Hercules, which will be released on November 12, gushing that he is currently ‘loving’ song composition.
