Euphoria’s Minka Kelly Rejected N-de Scene In Her First Episode

On HBO’s Euphoria, Minka Kelly claimed that she, like costar Sydney Sweeney, objected to a n-de scene.

The 41-year-old actress told Vanity Fair that she turned down a n-de scene for Season 2 of “Euphoria” because she “didn’t feel comfortable.”

Kelly’s character Samantha asks Alexa Demie’s character Maddy to assist her unzip her dress in the scene in question.

Despite the scene’s disconcerting sensuous edge, the “Euphoria” actress said that it was initially written to be more x- rated.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Levinson said, “[Levinson] thought it would be more interesting if my dress fell to the ground. That was my first day as a guest on this new show, and I just didn’t feel comfortable standing there n-ked.”

Kelly’s discomfort with going n-ked caused her to swiftly convey her opinions with Levinson, informing him that she didn’t believe the character required a n-de scene. Apart from the initial bone of disagreement, stating her views forced the filmmaker to redo all of the n-dity sequences including her.

“I said, ‘I’d love to do this scene, but I think we can keep my dress on.’ He was like, ‘Okay!’ He didn’t even hesitate. And he shot a beautiful scene and got exactly what he wanted,” she recalled.

Kelly admires Levinson’s flexibility, even if it means having a completely redone pool scene the morning of the shoot.

“That can be frustrating and can throw some people off, but I actually trust and feel safe with a director who’s not afraid to change his mind,” Kelly shared. “At the end of the day, the goal is what ends up on-screen. We’re all here to facilitate his vision.”

Sydney Sweeney, the star of “Euphoria,” previously disclosed in an interview with The Independent that she begged Levinson to delete portions of her n-ked sequences, which he agreed to.

“There are moments where [my character] Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here,'” she said. “He was like, ‘OK, we don’t need it.'”

She went on to say that Levinson was always accommodating to her requests for n-dity, making her feel secure while recording the intimate sequences. Sweeney stated, “I’ve never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a n-de scene into an HBO show. When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.”

Amanda Blumenthal, the intimacy coordinator for “Euphoria,” was recognized by Sweeney with assisting in the creation of a safe working atmosphere for the ensemble.

“I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting,” she admitted. “I didn’t feel comfortable with my castmate or the crew, and I just didn’t feel like my character would be doing it.”

A new cast member, Chloe Cherry, avoided n-de scene. Instead, the showrunners decided to cover her with fake blood, which worked nicely for the character.
