How Pam and Tommy’s s-x tape was stolen in revenge plot

Pam & Tommy is finally here, debuting on Disney+ this Wednesday after much anticipation.

The eight-part series is based on the true story of Pamela Anderson, the actress of “Baywatch,” and Tommy Lee, the drummer for Mötley Crüe, and the viral aftermath after their stolen private s-x film was leaked on the internet in the 1990s.

The new Hulu series, starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan as the lead pair, revisits the incident, which began when a disgruntled contractor working on the couple’s property, Rand Gauthier (played by Seth Rogen in the program), plotted revenge after being dismissed without pay. His aim was to get into Lee’s garage and steal a safe, where he discovered profitable film that would lead to a full-fledged celebrity s-x tape controversy.

Starting with Tommy Lee aiming a shotgun at Gauthier, the series follows the entire saga.

Pamela and Tommy were two young Hollywood stars in love before their lives were made into a TV script, first meeting in a bar in 1995.

Tommy had recently divorced his second wife, actress Heather Locklear, and his renowned heavy metal band had taken over the music industry.

Tommy and Pamela go on their first date in Cancn, Mexico, few weeks after meeting. And by “first date,” we mean Anderson was on site for a photoshoot when Lee unexpectedly showed up, anxious to meet her. Anderson and Lee would visit each other after work to go dancing and to events. Lee “just proposed!” one of the evenings. The manager of the club they were at told People, “He just said, ‘I want to marry you!'” The next day, they married on the beach in front of eight guests (and no shoes).

Madly in love, the couple went on a day of passion as they consummated their relationship, and chose to capture it on a video cassette, which meant it was kept in a tangible form back in the Cloudless nineties.

Electrician Rand Gauthier steals a 54-minute home video comprising eight minutes of Anderson and Lee having s-x from the couple’s Malibu home.

Gauthier stated in the Rolling Stone piece that he was prepared to forgive Lee for the $20,000 he claimed he owed him after being dismissed. When Gauthier and a general contractor went to the estate to get their equipment, Lee allegedly pointed a shotgun at them and screamed, “Get the (expletive) off my property,” a moment seen onscreen.

According to Gauthier, the electrician began hatching his scheme at that point.

Gauthier told the Rolling Stone that he had been stalking the property for months.

He knew where the security cameras were and how to turn them off from his work on the house, and as he prepared to do so, he draped a Tibetan yak fur rug over himself to disguise himself as the couple’s dog.

The couple’s garage was then broken into, and Gauthier took Lee’s safe. The specifics are murky. Gauthier may or may not have had accomplices that night.

There were firearms, jewels, and a variety of personal belongings inside the safe, including Anderson and Lee’s tape, which they recorded in the spring and summer of 1995.

He later watched the Hi8 tape with p0rnographer Milton “Uncle Miltie” Owen Ingley (Nick Offerman). “We put it in and see what it is, and of course, cha-ching. The dollar signs fly before our eyes,” he told Rolling Stone back in 2014. “But we’re going, ‘This is the kind of thing people will get killed over.’”

“Jane Fonda,” the third episode, has Uncle Miltie and Gauthier attempting to locate a distributor for the stolen DVD. According to Rolling Stone, the two ultimately met with gangster Louis “Butchie” Peraino (Andrew Dice Clay), who agreed to pay them $50,000 to fund the tape’s manufacturing and marketing, “with the expectation that he would receive interest on the loan and a cut of the sales.”

Anderson and Lee discovered the video had been taken two months later, and Lee filed a police complaint and hired a private investigator to figure out what had occurred. But it was too late at that time.

The movie was looped on one adult entertainment site and released on VHS and DVD, grossing £56 million despite Gauthier not seeing a penny.

Pam and Tommy eventually sued the video distribution corporation, and a private settlement arrangement was reached.

Pamela, now 54, was heartbroken, and the incident strained her relationship with the singer, 59, resulting in their divorce three years later.

“Someone took the safe and spliced together the different times and stated there was a s-x film,” she explained, “something she couldn’t stand to see.”

“I have never ever seen it. And it was not something you want anyone to see.”

Lee was “the love of my life,” Anderson maintains.

Pamela Anderson, who was seven months pregnant at the time, has spoken out against the tape’s publication, and has attacked the new Disney+ series that recounts the dramatic incident, which premieres on Wednesday.

“Pamela has no regrets about her life,” a source told ET Online.

“But the only thing she would probably erase is this burglary. She feels so violated to this day. It brings back a very painful time for her.”

Lily James, who plays Pamela, acknowledged that her disapproval of the show hurt her and that she tried to reach out, but to no effect.

“I was really hopeful that she would be involved. I wish it had been different,” she told Porter
