Sienna Miller opens up about Jude Law cheating scandal

In a recent interview, Sienna Miller discusses her experience of being cheated on, years after her ex Jude Law’s infidelity.

In 2005, it was revealed that Jude had been having an affair with Daisy Wright, his children’s babysitter.

Daisy disclosed her affair with the globally-renowned actor in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mirror, even handing over portions from her notebook that detailed their rendezvous in brutal detail. While the claims were devastating, the world awaited Jude’s confession or denial with bated breath, and in just a few days, he issued a public apology in which he admitted his guilt and expressed “sincere regret” for his conduct.

“Following the reports in today’s papers, I just want to say I am deeply ashamed and upset that I’ve hurt Sienna and the people most close to us,” Jude said. “I want to publicly apologize to Sienna and our respective families for the pain that I have caused.”

He added: “There is no defense for my actions which I sincerely regret and I ask that you respect our privacy at this very difficult time.”

Sienna, 23, was playing in the West End theatrical production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It when the scandal broke, and she has subsequently opened up about managing the emotional fallout of Jude’s infidelity while performing seven days a week in front of an audience.

In a 2020 interview with the Daily Beast, she highlighted how difficult it was for her to push through the agony and perform every night.

She told the publication, “That was one of the most challenging moments I hope I’ll ever have to experience. With that level of public heartbreak, to have to get out of a bed let alone stand in front of 800 people every night, it’s just the last thing you want to do.”

In the aftermath of his affair, Sienna and Jude broke their relationship, and both of them were subjected to constant tabloid scrutiny. The pair resumed their romance in 2009, but broke up again in 2011 (this time for good). In the year 2022, both Jude and Sienna have had children with new spouses and appear to be happy, but the world hasn’t forgotten the catastrophic events of 2005.

Now, when discussing her upcoming Netflix show Anatomy of a Scandal, Sienna has opened up about the cheating scandal. Sienna plays Sophie Whitehouse, the wife of a Member of Parliament, who learns that her husband James (Rupert Friend) has been accused of rape by a colleague with whom he had an affair.

In a new interview with ELLE UK released Monday, the actress explained how she was in a unique position to comprehend the subject.

“It was familiar terrain, because I’ve experienced some of the things that she experienced. And the feelings were familiar,” she said.

She then made a comparison between her character’s journey and her own life. “[But] her way of dealing with what’s thrown at her is the absolute antithesis of what my way is. And so, in a kind of twisted, tourism sense, I just wanted to see how it would feel to react differently.”

She went on to say that learning about this new character’s experiences allowed her to resolve her own trauma and recover her power.

“I know that sounds weird, because you’d think it would be deeply unpleasant to sit in that space,” Sienna said. “There is something cathartic, I suppose, about spending time in an ugly space that’s familiar. And maybe reclaiming it? I don’t know what the psychology of it is. But there is something where maybe you can substitute a memory with something else.”

Sienna described how it felt to film the moment in which Sophie discovers James’ affair by saying that her heartbeat was picked up by microphones during the filming. “It made me think, remember, and put myself back in that position,” she said, revealing that she drew from her own experience.

“It was weirdly interesting to kind of step back in,” Sienna continued, drawing additional parallels between the show and her own life. She also found it cathartic to spend time “in an ugly space that’s familiar.” “There is something where maybe you can substitute a memory with something else,” she said, explaining how she felt like she was “reclaiming” her experience.

Miller expressed her dissatisfaction with today’s paparazzi frenzy, saying her experience “feels like somebody else’s existence.”

“I can go and look at it,” she continued, “but it doesn’t feel like my life.”
