Scandal star Tony Goldwyn says he was sexually harassed

Actor Tony Goldwyn has come forward to say that he was sexually harassed when he was an acting student.

Goldwyn, best known for his role on the television show “Scandal,” spoke about his experience after reading an op-ed by Lupita Nyong’o in the New York Times about fending off Harvey Weinstein.

Goldwyn told “Access Hollywood” that Nyong’o’s story resonated with him. “It happened to me as a young guy, when I was literally Lupita’s age. It happened to me by a man and it wasn’t as extended or awful as what Lupita went through, but it was the same thing. It was the casting couch and I didn’t understand quite what was going on, or what was happening.”

He added that he knows many women have experienced such harassment, not just actresses. “It’s something women have to deal with in every situation, in every industry with powerful men,” he explained.

When Nyong’o published her op-ed, Goldwyn thanked her on Twitter and said, “Women need to know your brothers have your backs. Real men aren’t ‘like that.’ End the silence.”

Since the Weinstein scandal first broke and the #MeToo movement took off, dozens of celebrities including Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Bjork and others have come forward to say they were sexually harassed or assaulted by powerful men in the entertainment industry.

Fewer men have spoken about getting harassed, but Terry Crews tweeted that a “Hollywood honcho” groped his genitals at an event last year.

The revelations about Weinstein’s behavior have sparked a wider conversation about sexual harassment and assault in the entertainment industry and beyond.

Many women have shared their own stories of harassment and assault using the #MeToo hashtag, showing the widespread nature of the problem.

Goldwyn said he wants to raise awareness about sexual harassment and assault. He emphasized that it is not just a problem in the entertainment industry, but a pervasive issue that affects women in all industries.

He also stressed the importance of men standing up and speaking out against harassment and assault.

“I want to be a part of the solution, not the problem,” Goldwyn said. “It’s up to men to speak out against this kind of behavior. We need to support women and let them know that we believe them and we’re here for them.”

Goldwyn’s comments come at a time when the entertainment industry, and society as a whole, is grappling with the issue of sexual harassment and assault.

Many people have called for more accountability and consequences for those who engage in such behavior.

It remains to be seen what impact Goldwyn’s words will have, but his willingness to speak out and support women could help to further the conversation about sexual harassment and assault and bring about much-needed change.
