How being raped affected actress Rose McGowan
Rose McGowan, an actress and one of the most vocal proponents of the #MeToo movement, has shared her experiences surrounding the alleged sexual assault she suffered at the hands of Harvey Weinstein.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, McGowan stated that her life was split into two parts: “B.C. and A.D.” referring to Before and After the encounter with the Hollywood producer.
The alleged assault occurred during the 1997 Sundance Film Festival.
McGowan was there to support her film, “Going All the Way,” which was being presented by Weinstein’s former company, Miramax.
She was asked to attend Weinstein’s suite at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley, Utah, where the assault is said to have taken place.

Despite her initial resistance, she was advised by her management team to comply with Weinstein’s request.
The specifics of the assault are being saved for McGowan’s forthcoming memoir, “Brave.”
The actress remained quiet about the alleged incident until late last year, as reported by the New York Times.
McGowan was one of eight women who received $100,000 settlements from Weinstein after the alleged encounter.
In response to the allegations, Weinstein’s attorneys have released a statement denying any claims of sexual assault.
The statement reads, “Mr. Weinstein has never at any time committed an act of sexual assault, and it is wrong and irresponsible to conflate claims of impolitic behavior or consensual sexual contact later regretted, with an untrue claim of criminal conduct.”
In her interview with Vanity Fair, McGowan referred to Weinstein as “the monster” and stated that her book, “Brave,” will call out “all of them” in the Hollywood ecosystem.
She stated, “I’ve had this giant monster strapped to me for 20 years. He’s always been gunning for me. But that’s okay — I’ve been gunning for him, too.”
McGowan added, “They built a motherf—ing beast, and they built a motherf—ing problem. I am that problem to all of them. He represents all of them to me. And that’s why he must be slayed. So many women have been strapped around him. He ate so many of our souls that he couldn’t tell which way was which.”
The actress further spoke about the toll that the alleged assault and the decades of silence took on her life.
She stated, “You just got killed…. You still have the million-yard stare and don’t know what the f— just happened to you.”
