I was a prostitute and I’m proud of it – Roseanne Barr
Roseanne Barr, the millionaire comedian and star of the highest-rated sitcom in the world, has a unique perspective on her time as a sex worker.
In an interview with US Vanity Fair, Roseanne opened up about her past as a prostitute, and her views on the controversial topic.
“I was a prostitute and I’m not ashamed of it,” said Roseanne.
The actress sold her body in parking lots to earn money between comedy gigs, and she feels that her experience has shaped her views on the subject.
“I felt powerful,” she stated.

“And in control… I think prostitution should be legal, because the way any society treats prostitutes reflects directly on how it treats the highest, most powerful woman.”
Roseanne has a clear stance on the issue and is vocal in her support for the rights of prostitutes.
She said, “I don’t like it when women talk down other women because they’re prostitutes. I’m for prostitute rights.”
“It’s always been here, and women should be able to control it, and regulate it, and have some f*ing protection…
“Prostitution is a business. It’s not about wanton women, from medieval times. It’s a f*ing way to make money.
The traditional view of prostitution is that it is degrading to women and an expression of misogyny by male clients.
However, Roseanne believes that the power dynamic is not as straightforward as that.
“The one who’s buying always thinks that he’s got the power, but he doesn’t,” she stated. “The one who’s supplying has got the power.”
Roseanne’s views on prostitution are certainly unique, but she is unapologetic about her stance.
She is a strong advocate for the rights of sex workers and believes that society should respect them for their choices and experiences.
The star’s show returns to Channel Ten later this month, and it will be interesting to see what other provocative and thought-provoking statements she may make.
