When Dakota Johnson landed the role of Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades trilogy by E.L. James, it was headline news.

She appeared in all three films, from 2015 to 2018, alongside Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey.

The books and movies center on Christian introducing Anastasia to BDSM while they fall in love, so there are numerous intense love scenes.

Johnson has pointed to one sx scene in particular as the most “shocking” to film. Keep reading to find out which one she named and why.

Johnson found the most challenging sx scene to be in the final movie, Fifty Shades Freed.

In a February 2018 interview with Marie Claire, Johnson identified a sequence from Fifty Shades Freed, the trilogy’s third film, as “the most difficult one by far.”

The scene occurs in Christian’s Red Room, where he restrains Anastasia. “I was handcuffed with my arms and legs to the gate,” Johnson remembered.

“It’s like a fence thing that comes down. And I was blindfolded.”

She expressed that the blindfold’s impact on her helplessness always caught her off guard.

“And it was kind of shocking,” she added.

“Because I didn’t realize that no matter how prepared or rehearsed I was, when your senses are taken away like that, you can’t control the way your nervous system will react. So it was really tricky to navigate that scene.”

Johnson referred to another scene in the trilogy as “emotionally taxing.”

“Filming a sx scene is not a sensual or pleasurable environment,” Johnson told Time in 2015 after filming the first movie, Fifty Shades of Grey.

“It’s just sweaty and it’s not very comfortable.”

The scenes’ complexity and the props involved made them even more unpleasant.

She highlighted a scene in Fifty Shades of Grey where Christian uses a flogger on Anastasia as another least favorite.

“My hands and legs were tied, and I was blindfolded, and I was being hit with this bizarre tool,” she continued.

Being physically restrained resulted in emotional stress, especially during that scene, which took hours to perfect.

“It was emotionally taxing,” she confessed.

“At first I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is the worst thing ever,’ and then I was like, ‘All right, let’s get on with it.'”

Johnson also had to wear an uncomfortable undergarment.

In the Marie Claire interview, Johnson mentioned that during Fifty Shades, she wore a strapless thong in sx scenes for “some sense of being covered.”

It was designed to adhere to her body, but it often failed to stay in place.

“[The thong] would also come off because the adhesive would wear out, so then they would superglue it to my body so that it wouldn’t fall off,” she said.

“It’s not painful, I mean, it’s barely anything…It’s f***ing bizarre.”
