Portman was careful to point out that the long shot of Inés hanging from the rope features a body double.

“You do see some parts of me unclothed,” she said, “but if they end up in a website making it look like I’m nud, I’m going to be really, really angry.”

The Huffington Post subsequently interviewed the actress to clarify whether she regretted the ndity in Goya’s Ghost. “I don’t really have regrets,” she said.

“It’s meant to be a dramatic scene and part of a story. That really makes me angry.”

The use of the strappado technique was authorized by President George W. Bush and used by American interrogators during the Second Gulf War.

At the time of the film’s release in 2006, the use of the technique was still ongoing.

The scene in Goya’s Ghosts is difficult to watch, and Portman’s character’s vulnerability is palpable.
