Bill Cosby fired Lisa Bonet because she was pregnant
In a newly released memoir, “Let Love Rule,” Lisa Bonet’s ex-husband, Lenny Kravitz, alleges that Bill Cosby kicked Bonet off the 1990s “Cosby Show” spinoff, “A Different World,” after she announced her pregnancy in 1988.
According to Kravitz, Cosby immediately knew what was going on when Bonet and the show’s producer Debbie Allen called a meeting with him at the time.
Kravitz writes that Cosby didn’t say anything during the meeting, but a few days later, he called back and quashed the idea of Bonet’s character, Denise Huxtable, raising a child on her own with the support of her friends.
“Lisa Bonet is pregnant,” he announced, “but Denise Huxtable is not.”
Cosby allegedly pulled Bonet off the series, and although she was allowed to return to “The Cosby Show” after her daughter with Kravitz, Zoë, was born, her relationship with Cosby was “tense and ultimately untenable,” according to Kravitz.

Bonet eventually left “The Cosby Show” in 1991, citing creative differences at the time and was not invited back for the show’s finale.
The allegations come as Cosby continues to serve a three- to 10-year sentence in a Pennsylvania prison after being found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004.
In response to the allegations, Cosby’s spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, issued a statement to Page Six, saying, “Mr. Cosby does not wish to dignify these allegations with a response. This is a book by Lisa Bonet’s husband, whom Mr. Cosby has never met, and that’s that.”
Bonet, now 52, has not commented on the allegations.
In recent years, she has distanced herself from Cosby, telling Porter magazine in 2018 that she “always” sensed a darkness in him.
“I don’t need to say, ‘I told you so,’ I just leave all that to karma and justice and what will be,” she said at the time.
The allegations against Cosby have had a significant impact on his legacy.
In addition to his conviction and imprisonment, he has been stripped of numerous honors and had his television shows and stand-up comedy performances pulled from streaming services and television networks.
