Alicia Silverstone strips in protest for animal rights

Actress Alicia Silverstone has posed nude, wearing only faux leather boots, for PETA’s new campaign aimed at promoting vegan versions of the material.

In a video for the campaign, the “Clueless” star said, “If it takes me getting nkd for you to care about animals then that is what I’m after.”

Silverstone, who has been a vegan since 1999, has been a vocal advocate for animal rights for years.

Explaining her decision to pose nude, Silverstone said, “I never, ever, get nkd in TV, in film, nothing, never, nope — but I’ve done it for PETA because that’s how much it matters to me. I’d rather go nkd than wear animals.”

The campaign aims to highlight the environmental impact of leather production and to encourage people to choose alternative, vegan materials.

“There’s this idea that leather is somehow better for the earth but what they don’t realize is the amount of resources – water, food, oil for transport – the amount of energy that goes into making leather is extraordinary. It’s just not sustainable. The Earth can’t handle it,” Silverstone said.

As part of the campaign, Silverstone also posed with a cactus, which PETA hopes will encourage people to buy different types of vegan leather.

“DON’T BE A PRICK,” the PETA picture proclaims. “Wear Vegan. Buy cactus, mushroom or apple leather instead!”

This is not the first time that Silverstone has stripped down for a cause. In 2019, she posed nkd for PETA’s campaign aimed at encouraging people to ditch wool.

Her new campaign will have its own billboard just in time for the New Year’s Eve ball drop.

Silverstone has been a vegan since she was 21 and has continued to extol the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle.

In 2018, she credited her family’s vegan diet with keeping her 11-year-old son, Bear Blu, healthy. “He’s never had to take medicine in his life,” she said.

“He can get sniffles and a runny nose but he’s not down, he still goes to school. Two times in his life has he been like ‘Mommy I don’t feel good,’ and it was only for a few hours and he was back running around.”

PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is an international animal rights organization that advocates for the ethical treatment of animals.

The organization has been known for its controversial campaigns in the past, including using nudity to raise awareness about animal rights issues.

The use of vegan leather has been on the rise in recent years, with more and more companies offering alternatives to traditional leather made from animal hides.

Vegan leather can be made from a variety of materials, including synthetic materials like PVC and PU, as well as natural materials like pineapple leaves, mushrooms, and cork.

The environmental impact of leather production has been a concern for many years, with some experts estimating that it takes up to 20 times more energy to produce leather than it does to produce synthetic materials.

In addition, the tanning process used to treat animal hides can release toxic chemicals into the environment, which can have a harmful impact on both people and wildlife.

The fashion industry has come under increasing pressure in recent years to address its impact on the environment, with many consumers seeking out sustainable and ethical fashion options.

As a result, many fashion brands have begun to explore alternative materials and production methods in order to reduce their environmental footprint.
