Emilia Clarke would cry before s-x scenes with Jason Momoa on Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke has revealed how she struggled with the show’s frequent nvde and s^x scenes during her early days on the series.

Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, said she was “terrified” by the prospect of filming such scenes, and that she had “imposter syndrome times a million” on set.

In a 2019 interview on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Clarke said she had not been aware of the amount of nvdity in the script when she accepted the role.

However, she added that co-star Jason Momoa, who played her on-screen husband Khal Drogo, had been very supportive throughout.

“I’ve never been on a film set like this before,” Clarke said.

“I’d been on a film set twice before then, and I’m now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don’t know what I’m meant to do, and I don’t know what’s expected of me, and I don’t know what you want, and I don’t know what I want.”

“Regardless of there being nudity or not, I would have spent that first season thinking I’m not worthy of requiring anything. I’m not worthy of needing anything at all.”

Clarke went on to describe how Momoa had been “kind and considerate” throughout filming, and had even shed tears during a scene in which his character “virtually rapes” Daenerys on their wedding night.

“He was crying more than I was,” Clarke said.

“Because Jason had experience – he was an experienced actor who had done a bunch of stuff before coming on to this – he was like, ‘Sweetie, this is how it’s meant to be, this is how it’s not meant to be, and I’m going to make sure that that’s the f***ing gaze.'”

Momoa himself has spoken publicly about his fondness for Clarke, and about his enjoyment of working on Game of Thrones.

In 2019, he shared several photos of himself with Clarke and other cast members, writing: “I am beyond honoured to be apart of this show and am so very proud of all the friends I have met and still continue to keep a tight bond. It’s rare.”

As Game of Thrones came to an end in 2019, Momoa posted a video on Instagram in which he reacted to the show’s controversial finale.

The actor, who played Khal Drogo in the show’s early seasons, appeared to be upset by the way his on-screen wife Daenerys was killed off.

Momoa was shown shouting at the screen and even growling in anger as he watched the episode.

“Fuck you! Fuck you, punk!” Momoa shouted as Daenerys was killed by Jon Snow.

Later, as the show ended, he said: “Oh my god. We’re gonna go to the bars and we’re gonna get in a fight.”

Clarke herself has been open about the emotions she felt as the show came to a close, and has regularly posted messages on social media thanking fans and cast members for their support.

In one post, she shared a farewell message to the show and said it had been “a trip” being part of it. In another, she shared a photo of herself with Momoa and wrote: “When life is so good that your sun and stars is in your city…you lose your eyes and gain 5 grins.”

Momoa, for his part, has continued to praise Clarke and other Game of Thrones cast members on social media.

In February 2023, he shared a photo of himself with Clarke and showrunner Dan Weiss, writing: “Moon of my life @emilia_clarke every time I leave

you my face hurts from smiling too much. I Fucking love you forever.”

The close relationship between Clarke and Momoa has been a source of fascination for Game of Thrones fans, who have speculated on whether the two were more than just friends.

In a 2019 interview with Rolling Stone, Clarke said she and Momoa were “good friends” who had bonded over their shared love of pranks and joking around on set.

“We’re really good friends and we joke around a lot and he’s just the loveliest guy,” she said.

“I mean, it’s mad how much we get on. It’s just really, really great.”

Clarke added that Momoa was “like a big brother” to her, and that he had been a constant source of support during her time on Game of Thrones.

“He was definitely a mentor to me, and not just in terms of the work,” she said.

“I was in a completely different world to what I was used to, and he was very good at keeping me grounded and not getting too swept up in it all.”

As Game of Thrones prepares to return to screens for a prequel series, House of the Dragon, Clarke has spoken about her hopes for the new show.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, she said she was excited to see what the producers had in store for fans, and that she was looking forward to watching it herself.

“I’m really excited to see what they do with it,” she said.

“I think there’s so much potential there, and I think the fans are going to be really pleased with what they see.”

Clarke added that she was proud of what she had achieved on Game of Thrones, and that she was grateful for the opportunities it had given her in her career.

“I feel like I’ve been very lucky to be a part of something that was so special and that meant so much to so many people,” she said.

“It’s something that I’ll always be grateful for.”
