Henry Cavill argued about intimate scene with Anya Chalotra

Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra, who play Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg respectively on Netflix’s hit show, The Witcher, recently got their way when they argued against sharing a certain intimate scene in the series.

According to reports, the actors felt their characters should be sharing a more emotional connection after their time spent apart.

Throughout the series, Geralt and Yennefer share several emotional and intimate moments.

Their relationship throughout the years is far from perfect, and is shadowed with heartache and distrust. Upon finding out about a steamy scene that was supposed to take place in season two when their characters reunite, Cavill and Chalotra were apparently against it.

It involved the two reuniting after a long absence. It seems the two actors felt the scene worked better if Geralt and Yennefer made their reunion more emotional than s**ual.

They decided to talk with the producers about changing the scene, and it seems they were successful. Apparently, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich agreed.

“The story is much more about the evolution of a family. And so we didn’t need to have a lot of s**. We didn’t need to have a lot of nudity. It would have been gratuitous, because we would have thrown it in there to be s**ier, or to have people talk. And that’s just not of interest to me,” Hissrich said in a statement.

According to Syfy Wire, Cavill commented, “These are people who believe one thing about the fate of another, and then find out something else is true.”

Cavill was referring to Geralt believing Yennefer had died.

It appears the actors felt because of where their characters’ relationship stood, their reunion needed to be more emotional instead of s**ual.

According to Fandomwire, “Chalotra revealed that both she and Cavill were disinclined toward portraying an intimate relationship onscreen between their two characters.”

After reading the script for season two, Cavill and Chalotra decided to speak with the producers of the show about the scene in which they reunite.

Apparently, it was originally written to show the characters reuniting passionately. Viewers might notice the bed in the background.

However, it seems the two actors felt it wasn’t the way their “characters would behave.”

“That’s not how they behave. How they behave is they just want to be with the person and emotionally recognize their existence again in that shared space. So, Anya and I worked to make sure that was an emotional beat rather than anything else,” Cavill explained.

The scene was changed to show a moving moment between Geralt and Yennefer. It also features Yennefer meeting Ciri.

Chalotra discussed working with Cavill to develop their onscreen relationship.

“It was very important to work with Henry through that relationship”, adding “his experience just helped in every conversation we had.”

It is not uncommon for celebrities to want to change scenes or lines in films and shows to make sure they feel true to their character.

When it comes to shows and movies, actors often care about their characters.

Apparently, Cavill and Chalotra didn’t feel the scene was right for their characters at that point.

The Witcher is a fantasy show based on novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Two seasons have already been released, and a third season is set to premiere later this year.

Along with Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Geralt and Yennefer are the main characters in the show.

Cavill is reportedly a big fan of both The Witcher video games and novels. It’s no surprise that both he and his co-star, Chalotra, would probably want to do their best to bring their characters to life. This passion for their characters led them to argue against the intimate scene, and ultimately get their way.

“We just wanted to be very careful that it was true and real and it didn’t turn into something that we, as actors, didn’t believe it should be. We wanted it to be emotional rather than s**ual. It was really, really important and we had to lean away from what was originally on the page,” Cavill added.

It is admirable to see actors take ownership of their characters and their storylines.

Cavill and Chalotra’s dedication to portraying their characters in the most authentic way possible paid off, as the scene ended up being changed to better fit the story’s overall narrative.

The Witcher has gained a massive following since its release, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the show’s third season.

The show’s success can be attributed to its captivating storyline, immersive world-building, and brilliant performances by its cast.
