Emma Thompson talks n*ked scenes: “The hardest thing ever”

Emma Thompson has opened up about her experience filming a nude scene for the movie ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande’.

The Academy Award-winning actress described the experience as “the hardest thing” she has ever had to do.

Speaking at a press conference for the Berlinale Special Gala, Thompson explained that she found it challenging to get naked for the camera.

She highlighted how women have been “brainwashed all our lives to hate our bodies”, and noted that this is the root of the problem.

“If I stand in front of a mirror, I’m always sort of pulling something, or I’ll turn to the side, I’ll do something. I can’t just stand there. Why would I do that, it’s horrifying”, said Thompson.

She encouraged the audience to “just accept” and “not judge” themselves the next time they see themselves in the nude.

Thompson’s latest comments come after she recently discussed the “dreadful demands” placed upon women to maintain perfect figures.

“Nothing has changed in the dreadful demands made upon women in the real-world world but also in acting. This thing of having to be thin is still the same as it ever was, and actually in some ways I think it’s worse now”, she said.

Thompson shrugged off the idea of going under the knife and said it’s a “very strange thing to do” when aging is “completely natural”.

She criticized cosmetic surgery, saying: “I do honestly think the cutting of yourself off to put it in another place in order to avoid appearing to do what you’re actually doing, which is aging, which is completely natural, is a form of collective psychosis. I really do think it’s a very strange thing to do.”

Thompson has always been against plastic surgery and is against women being told what “to do” with their own bodies.

“I’ve always thought that, though. But I’ve always been a kind of card-carrying, militant feminist when it comes to women’s bodies and what’s been done to them, what we’re told to expect of ourselves, what we’re told to do to ourselves”, she explained.

Thompson’s comments highlight the challenges faced by women in the entertainment industry when it comes to body image.

They also shed light on the broader societal pressure placed on women to conform to impossible beauty standards.

It is no secret that the media often perpetuates unrealistic beauty ideals, which can lead to low self-esteem, body shaming, and eating disorders among women.

These issues are further compounded in the entertainment industry, where actors are often expected to conform to certain physical standards to succeed.

Thompson’s comments are part of a growing movement in Hollywood to challenge these norms and promote body positivity.

Other actresses such as Jameela Jamil and Jennifer Lawrence have also been vocal about these issues.

The actress has also been outspoken on other social issues, including climate change and political activism.

Thompson’s comments highlight the negative impact of unrealistic beauty standards and the importance of accepting ourselves for who we are.

As Thompson notes, “women have been brainwashed all our lives to hate our bodies. That’s just the fact.

And everything that surrounds us reminds us how imperfect we are, and everything is wrong with us.”

It is time for us to challenge these messages and embrace a more inclusive and accepting definition of beauty.
