Batman actor was ‘told to take pills to shrink his PEN!S’

Burt Ward, who played Robin in the iconic Sixties TV series Batman, has revealed that he was asked to take pills to “shrink” his p-nis while filming the show.

Speaking to Page Six, Ward claimed that executives believed Robin “had a very large bulge for television”, unlike his co-star Adam West, who apparently had “Turkish towels in his undershorts”.

After seeing a doctor as a result, Ward was prescribed medication to “shrink me up”.

However, he stopped taking the pills after three days for fear they could prevent him from having children.

Instead, he used his cape to cover up.

Ward also disclosed that his stint on Batman may have cost him a career as a nuclear physicist.

He said: “I was a straight-A student at UCLA.

“In fact, the dean at UCLA was upset with me when I left in my third year to do Robin because she said I should have been a nuclear physicist.

“I was in the top 3% in the United States in science and math.”

Ward’s co-star West, who played Batman in the series, died in 2017.

The pair’s on-screen partnership made them icons of the era and their characters have since been referenced in many films and TV shows.

Last year, Ward described West as “like a brother to me”.

Ward’s revelations come after he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He unveiled the honour earlier this week alongside his wife, Tracy, and their dogs.

Ward expressed his gratitude to the show’s fans for their support over the years.

“It’s hard to describe how grateful I am for this, and how much I love our Batman fans”, he said.

Batman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger in 1939.

The character first appeared in Detective Comics #27, published by DC Comics.

In the Sixties, a TV series based on the character was produced, starring West and Ward.

The show ran for three seasons between 1966 and 1968, and has since become a cult classic.

Ward was born Bert John Gervis Jr in 1945.

After leaving university to take up acting, he landed the part of Robin in Batman at the age of 20.

After the show ended, he continued to act in TV and film, and became involved in animal welfare activism.

In 1994, he and Tracy founded the Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions charity to help find homes for large breed dogs.

Ward’s claims about being asked to take pills to reduce the size of his p-nis came amid a wider debate about the sexualisation of actors in Hollywood.

In recent years, several high-profile figures have spoken out about being pressured to conform to certain expectations, including former Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa, who said he was told to lose weight and “look more like a starving artist” when trying to get roles.

Last year, actress Emma Thompson told the BBC that she had refused to work with a producer who had claimed that a female actor needed to lose weight.

“There was a wonderful actress in a film I did called Brideshead Revisited”, she said.
