Rosamund Pike was told to STR!P down during audition
Rosamund Pike, the actor known for her roles in Gone Girl and A Private War, recently recounted her experience of being asked to strip down to her underwear during an audition for the James Bond film Die Another Day.
Pike refused to comply with the request, and instead kept her clothes on, which ultimately impressed the film’s producers and resulted in her being cast as character Miranda Frost opposite Pierce Brosnan in the 2002 film.
Pike shared her story during an interview with Amazon’s Audible Sessions, stating that her initial audition for the film was a challenging one.
The actor was asked to appear in an evening dress, but instead turned up in a silk gown that had once belonged to her grandmother.
The costume designer was unimpressed with Pike’s outfit and suggested that she wear something more typical of a Bond girl.

Pike explained, “’That’s a very beautiful dress, but in Bond films we wear things a little more like this’, and she held up three pieces of string.
“I realised I was in a completely different world and way out of my depth.
“So, I put on this shimmering sheath, or whatever the order of the day was, but I didn’t drop it.”
During the audition, Pike was asked to remove her dress and appear in her underwear.
However, she refused to comply with the request, saying “actually sod that, if they’re gonna see me in my underwear, they better give me the job”.
Pike was only 21 years old at the time of the audition, and said that she felt out of her depth in the world of James Bond.
Despite her reservations, she ultimately impressed the film’s producers with her refusal to strip down, and was cast as Miranda Frost in the film.
Pike acknowledged that while the incident during her audition was difficult, she felt safe on set thanks to the support of producer Barbara Broccoli.
The actor praised the character of Miranda Frost, saying that she was well-written and complex.
Pike has had a busy year with roles in multiple films, including Entebbe, Beirut, and Hostiles.
She will next lead the Matthew Heineman-directed A Private War alongside Jamie Dornan.
The story of Pike’s audition for Die Another Day has gained attention in the wake of rumors about who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.
Actor Idris Elba has been suggested as a possible candidate, and responded to the rumors on Twitter by saying, “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba. Don’t believe the HYPE”.
While the casting decision for the next James Bond has not yet been made, Pike’s story serves as a reminder of the challenges and pressures that actors face during the audition process.
The film Die Another Day was directed by Lee Tamahori and starred Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
It was the 20th film in the James Bond franchise and was released in 2002.
The film received mixed reviews from critics, but was a commercial success, grossing over $435 million at the box office.
Pike has become known for her strong female roles in films such as Gone Girl and A Private War.
She has spoken out about the importance of complex female characters in film, saying that “we need to see women who are not just there to be the love interest or the mother or the trophy”.
Pike has also been vocal about the issue of gender inequality in Hollywood, saying that “there’s still a long way to go” in terms of creating equal opportunities for women in the industry.
