Margot Robbie slapped Leo DiCaprio to land film role

In a passionate and ad-libbed audition for her role as Naomi, the wife of Jordan Belfort in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Margot Robbie landed the part by slapping Leonardo DiCaprio.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Robbie shared that she only had 30 seconds left in the room and decided to take her chance.

Robbie revealed that the first scene together quickly got out of control, creating the perfect tension for their reckless coupling in the film.

“And so I start screaming at him [Leo] and he’s yelling back at me.

And he’s really scary.

I can barely keep up.

And he ends it saying, ‘You should be happy to have a husband like me.

Now get over here and kiss me,’” Robbie recalled.

“So I walk up really close to his face and then I’m like, ‘Maybe I should kiss him.

When else am I ever going to get a chance to kiss Leo DiCaprio, ever?’ But another part of my brain clicks and I just go, ‘Whack!’ I hit him in the face.

And then I scream, ‘F— you!’ And that’s not in the script at all.

The room just went dead silent and I froze,” Robbie said.

The Australian actress was mortified after realizing what she had just done.

“I’m thinking, ‘You just hit Leonardo DiCaprio in the face.

They’re going to arrest you because that’s assault,’ ” Robbie recalled.

“‘You’re definitely never going to work again, that’s for sure.

They’ll probably sue you as well in case there’s a bruise on his face and he needs to film something else.’”

However, the slap didn’t ruin her chance of getting the part.

In fact, it helped her land the role of Naomi in the film.

“She’s magnificent,” DiCaprio said of Robbie in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“She conveyed a sense of understanding, that she could handle herself, that she was mature beyond her years.

I knew right away she was right for the part.”

Robbie has since starred in many successful films, including Suicide Squad, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Bombshell, among others.

In her latest film, Focus, Robbie plays the s**y foil to another onscreen con man, played by Will Smith.

The film was released in 2015 and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.
