Brooke Nevils blamed herself after Matt Lauer rape

Former NBC staffer Brooke Nevils continued to engage in s**ual activity with Matt Lauer after he allegedly raped her in a hotel room in Russia because she believed the encounter was “all her fault,” according to sources who spoke to The Post.

Nevils claimed that Lauer anally raped her while they were covering the Sochi Olympics in 2014.

Despite this, she did not go to the police or report the incident to NBC chiefs at the time and continued to have multiple s**ual liaisons with him once they returned to New York.

Sources say that Nevils thought it was all her fault and that she remained in this mindset until the #MeToo movement came along.

She was trying to rationalize the original event in her mind, thinking that if they could have a romantic relationship, then she could make the traumatic event less severe.

The fact that they were in Russia on a work trip made matters even more complicated for Nevils at the time.

Nevils considered the s** they had afterwards to be consensual, but when the Weinstein scandal broke, she knew she had to come forward.

According to The Post, the affair lasted several months, with Lauer and Nevils having s** at the television presenter’s apartment and in his dressing room.

The revelations about the rape and subsequent consensual liaisons are part of Ronan Farrow’s upcoming book “Catch and Kill,” which is set to be published soon.

The book details allegations of s**ual misconduct by powerful men in various industries, including Hollywood and the media.

Nevils and her political-strategist fiancé Luke Thompson were seen outside their Upper West Side apartment on Thursday morning, with the former NBC staffer championing Thompson on Twitter for his support.

The allegations against Lauer led to his dismissal from NBC in November 2017.

He issued a public apology at the time and said he was “truly sorry” for the pain he had caused.

However, he also denied some of the allegations against him.

Nevils’ allegation against Lauer was made public in 2017, but it had not been clear until now that they continued to have s**ual encounters after the alleged rape.

In her complaint, Nevils said that Lauer had asked her to come to his hotel room while they were covering the Olympics and that once she was there, he pushed her onto the bed and anally raped her.

Lauer, who was married at the time, told Nevils not to tell anyone about what had happened, according to her complaint.

She also told NBC colleagues, including former “Today” co-anchor Meredith Vieira, about the alleged assault.

Vieira urged her to go to NBC’s human resources department, but Nevils did not want to pursue the matter.

Nevils left NBC in 2018 and has since started a new job.

In a statement, she said that she was “grateful” for the support she had received since coming forward with her allegations.

Lauer has mostly stayed out of the public eye since his dismissal from NBC.

In 2019, he was reportedly finalizing a divorce from his wife, Annette Roque, with whom he has three children.
