Donald Sutherland says Don’t Look Now s** scene was fake
Donald Sutherland, the 82-year-old Hollywood veteran, has denied that the s** scene he performed with Julie Christie in the 1973 movie, Don’t Look Now, was real.
Speaking at the New York Premiere of his new film The Leisure Seeker, Sutherland stated that anyone who claimed otherwise was an “idiot.”
He further explained that no take lasted longer than 15 seconds before the action was stopped so that he and Christie could reposition themselves.
Thus, performing the act would have been impossible.
Despite the scene’s erotic nature, Sutherland disclosed that filming it had not been easy as he and Christie had to stop every 15 seconds to change position.

However, he also added that he loved the scene because “it reminded you of making love.”
In the past, rumors about the authenticity of the s** scene have persisted for years, helped along by former Paramount executive Peter Bart who claimed as much in his 2011 book.
At the time of its release, the Don’t Look Now s** scene was hugely controversial and described as “one of the frankest love scenes ever to be filmed.”
It caused issues for censors in both Britain and America where it received an X-rating and R-rating, respectively.
When the movie first aired on British television, the entire scene was removed by the BBC.
Sutherland, who stars alongside Helen Mirren in his latest film, The Leisure Seeker, has been protective of the movie in the past, suggesting back in 2015 as rumors of a remake swirled that it would be an “embarrassment.”
He accused those wanting to profit off the movie’s success of being “ashamed of themselves.”
In The Leisure Seeker, Sutherland and Mirren play a married couple who embark on a road trip before his Alzheimer’s and her cancer catch up with them.
The movie explores the couple’s relationship as they navigate through difficult times.
Sutherland’s denial of the authenticity of the s** scene in Don’t Look Now puts an end to long-standing rumors that have persisted for years.
Despite the controversy surrounding the scene, Sutherland remains proud of his work and still considers it to be one of the most beautiful scenes ever filmed.
It is not uncommon for actors to perform simulated s** scenes in movies, and Donald Sutherland’s revelation about the Don’t Look Now scene is just one example of such instances.
Nevertheless, the controversy generated by such scenes often draws attention to the films and can generate significant publicity, which can be both positive and negative.
In the case of Don’t Look Now, the controversy surrounding the s** scene did not detract from the film’s overall success.
