Sam Smith doesn’t regret going topless on social media

British singer Sam Smith, who identifies with the pronouns they/them, has revealed that going topless on social media has helped them to accept themselves.

Smith disclosed that they suffered from an endocrine disorder known as gynecomastia, which led to an increase in male breast tissue and resulted in bullying when they were younger.

This caused them to undergo liposuction at age 12.

While their s**ual orientation wasn’t their main concern as a child, body image issues have always been a struggle for them.

Speaking with Australian TV show “The Project,” Smith, now 27 years old, noted that their body and gender issues have always been closely linked.

“I still struggle having my top off.

I still struggle with weight issues,” they explained.

“I always will.

I feel like with social media, taking my top off on social media, it helped me.” The singer of hit songs such as “Stay with Me” came out as gay in 2014 and non-binary last year.

Smith, who is currently in Australia, is set to headline the annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney.

They have been open about their struggles with mental health and have discussed how difficult it is to be in the public eye, particularly when dealing with criticism and trolling on social media.

They’ve also spoken about their decision to change their pronouns, explaining that it felt like a natural progression toward self-acceptance.
