Justin Timberlake plotted Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction for this reason

In 2004, Justin Timberlake allegedly arranged for Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction at the Superbowl to outdo his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears, according to stylist Wayne Scot Lukas.

The incident, dubbed Nipplegate, involved Timberlake tearing part of Jackson’s costume, revealing her breast to the audience.

The incident caused a scandal in the United States, with Jackson’s music and videos being removed from radio stations and television channels.

It took Timberlake 17 years to apologise to Jackson, which he did on Instagram in February.

Lukas revealed this new information in an interview with Page Six, stating that Timberlake was keen on one-upping Spears, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera, who had kissed at the MTV Video Music Awards a few months prior.

“He insisted on doing something bigger than their performance,” said Lukas.

“He wanted a reveal.”

The original plan was for Jackson to wear a pearl G-string inspired by Kim Cattrall’s character in s** and the City.

“Janet was going to be in a Rocha dress, and [Justin] was going to step on the back of her dress to reveal her b*tt in this pearl G-string,” Lukas explained.

However, “the outfit changed a couple of days before, and you saw the magic.”

Timberlake famously referred to the incident as a “wardrobe malfunction,” but Lukas disagreed.

“I wouldn’t call it a wardrobe ‘malfunction’ in a million years.

It was the most functioning wardrobe in history.

As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do.”

Timberlake issued apologies to both Spears and Jackson in February, after facing backlash following the release of the Framing Britney Spears documentary.

In an Instagram post, he wrote, “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right.

I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”

The documentary sparked conversations about fame, mental health, and the treatment of Spears by the public and media.

The relationship between Spears and Timberlake lasted from 1999 to 2002.

The Independent contacted Timberlake’s representatives for comment on Lukas’ claims.
