“I don’t consider myself that ambitious”: Julia Roberts Broke Silence for Refusing $227M Movie With Tom Hanks, Claims She Doesn’t Regret it Yet
Julia Roberts, the celebrated Hollywood actor known for her unforgettable performances in movies like Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich, and My Best Friend’s Wedding, recently revealed that she refused a role in the 1993 romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle, starring alongside Tom Hanks.
In an interview with InStyle magazine in 2014, Roberts disclosed that she decided to turn down the role, which led to Meg Ryan’s iconic performance instead.
Despite the missed opportunity, Roberts expressed her happiness for Ryan’s portrayal of Hanks’ star-crossed lover in the movie.
She also mentioned that she was busy filming Pretty Woman with Richard Gere around the same time and hence could not commit to Sleepless in Seattle.
During the interview, Roberts talked about her non-ambitious nature and how she never felt sour grapes about losing a role to someone else.

She said, “I always feel like there is room for everybody.
I don’t consider myself really all that ambitious.
When I didn’t get a part – even when I was younger and needing to pay my rent – I would think, ‘Oh, someone else got it.
She’s going to be so good.’”
Roberts also spoke about maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
She mentioned that she was not as busy as people thought and that half of everything on her to-do list did not get done.
She added that as long as no one was in tears, nobody smelled bad, and everyone was sleeping peacefully, she had done her job.
Roberts also credited her supportive group of girlfriends, her husband, American cinematographer Daniel Moder, and understanding family for helping her balance work and life.
At 55 years old, Roberts is a mother of three children and has won several awards, including an Academy Award and three Golden Globes Awards.
Despite her success, she remains humble and content with her life choices, including turning down a $227 million movie role.
