Sandra Bullock has commended Netflix for hiring actors like her, claiming that she “would have been out in the cow pasture” if it weren’t for the streaming platform.

The Unforgiveable, which she recently released on Netflix, was a big hit, propelling the drama into the top ten most-watched films on the site. What else is higher on that list of rankings? Her 2018 thriller Bird Box was a huge hit.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the movie’s premiere, the 57-year-old actress praised Netflix for keeping her employed.

“They’re good to artists,” the 57-year-old veteran actress said. “They’re good to filmmakers. If it wasn’t for Netflix, a lot of people wouldn’t be working. Their stories wouldn’t be told. Who would think that me, as a woman, would still be working at this point? I would have been out in the cow pasture. It’s true.”

She described the popularity of programs like Squid Game as “one of the bigger ones” but said that she has seen more work from other nations told by people of different ethnicities. “It brings people together in a way that really, you know, we’re getting more and more divided and yet, we have the streamers that are able to blend our stories together and go, look: same story, just different.”

Bullock, according to PEOPLE, admitted in 2018 that she was on the verge of abandoning acting due to Hollywood’s sexism.

“My career has been a domino effect of people who said, ‘I would like this person to fill this role,’ ” the Ocean’s 8 actress stated at the time to USA Today. “And not just in the industry, but people in my life. My mother raised me like, ‘You don’t need to get married, you forge your own path. You make your own money, and be your own person.’ And I literally went out into the world thinking there was no disparity, that everyone was equal, and I can do whatever a man can do.”

Bullock claimed she experienced a “wake-up moment” later in her career, when she was like, “What is this feeling? Why do I feel so [expletive]?”

” ‘Oh my God, I’m being treated this way because I have a vagina.’ ”

“It was hard for me, because I walked with blinders on through life and got to where I [felt] like I was less than because I was a woman,” she stated.

“And that was a hard pill to swallow. I had a lot of sadness from that. I was like, ‘Wow, maybe I need to step out of here. Maybe I need to do something else for a living.’ And that was in the middle of when I was getting work — I didn’t want to be a part of that world where there was that experience.”

She told Entertainment Weekly of her most recent role, Ruth Slater, a woman who has been released after decades in prison, “My character is someone who has been incarcerated for 20 years for a pretty heinous crime [and] gets out. ”

“There are several people whose lives she affected by this crime she committed, and there’s a lot of hatred and anger and bitterness and sorrow associated with her release. She wants to find this one person, the only family she had when she went in, and you keep asking yourself, ‘Why can’t you let it go? This family member was traumatized by your actions — let it go! Stop harming these people all over again.’ ”

Meanwhile, Bullock will star alongside Channing Tatum in the adventure rom-com The Lost City, which will be released in theaters on March 25th.

The film, directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, follows a reclusive romance author on a book tour with a cover model. They become entangled in a cutthroat jungle adventure, which is an unusual turn of events. The film will be released in 2022.
