Jada Pinkett Smith suffered with sex addiction for years

Jada Pinkett Smith has opened up about her struggles with various forms of addiction, including sex addiction, in a recent episode of her Facebook Watch series, “Red Table Talk.”

The actress discussed her experiences, explaining that at one point, she believed sex could fix everything.

Additionally, Pinkett Smith admitted to dealing with gym addiction and alcohol dependency in her life.

She recalled a moment when she hit rock bottom, consuming nearly three bottles of wine alone in one night.

The episode focused on the many ways addiction can manifest and featured Pinkett Smith’s mother, Adrienne Banfield Norris, R&B singer August Alsina, and Will Smith’s younger sister, Ashley Marie, who shared their own experiences with addiction.

Jada Pinkett Smith acknowledged that addiction patterns run in her family, making her susceptible to addictive behaviors.

She mentioned being a binger and needing to be cautious about becoming obsessed with things.

In a previous episode of “Red Table Talk,” Pinkett Smith revealed her grandmother had taught her about self-pleasure at the age of nine.

She mentioned going through a period where she was masturbating five times a day, considering it a form of addiction at the time.

Sex therapist Vanessa Marin explained that individuals identifying as sex addicts feel that their obsession with sex impacts their daily life, leading to unhealthy and potentially dangerous decisions.

However, sex addiction remains a controversial topic. Many therapists and educators argue that sex addiction is not the same as drug or alcohol addiction, primarily due to limited research on the subject.

More studies need to be conducted to understand the prevalence of sex addiction and develop standard treatments.

In the episode, Pinkett Smith did not detail how she overcame her various addictions, so it is unclear if she utilized therapy or other methods to manage them.

Nevertheless, she emphasized the importance of identifying the root cause of one’s behavior when dealing with dependency, including sex addiction.
