Ed Sheeran says he ‘thought he was gay’ as a kid

Ed Sheeran, the popular singer-songwriter, has revealed that he thought he was gay while growing up due to his “big feminine side”.

Speaking on the Dutch podcast Man, Man, Man, the 30-year-old singer shared that his interests, which he believes to be “feminine”, made him question his sexuality as a child.

He said, “I have a definite feminine side, to the point that, when I was a kid, I thought I was gay for a bit”.

The “Shape of You” singer continued by saying that he loves musical theatre, pop music, and Britney Spears, which are all considered “feminine” interests.

Sheeran added, “My masculine side probably stops at drinking beer and watching football.

“I am not a car guy. I like a nice car, but I’m not a car guy”.

Sheeran, who is married to Cherry Seaborn and has a 15-month-old daughter named Lyra, also spoke about his new album that was released last week.

Last month, Sheeran was called a “f***ing big mouth” by Elton John after he prematurely revealed that they had recorded a Christmas song together.
Sheeran’s honesty about his experiences of questioning his sexuality has been praised by many fans.

One person tweeted, “I love how open Ed Sheeran is about his feminine side and how he thought he was gay when he was younger.

“It’s important to have open conversations about this”.
Another Twitter user wrote, “Ed Sheeran discussing his feminine side and thinking he was gay growing up is such an important conversation to have.

We need to break down the barriers of what is considered ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’”.
In recent years, there has been an increase in discussions around gender and sexuality, with more people feeling comfortable sharing their experiences and feelings.

This has led to a greater understanding and acceptance of people who do not conform to traditional gender norms.

Sheeran’s comments about his feminine side are a reminder that gender is a social construct and that it is okay for people to have varied interests and characteristics that may not fit into traditional gender roles.

The singer’s openness about questioning his sexuality also highlights the importance of creating safe spaces for people to explore their identity without fear of judgement or discrimination.

This is particularly important for young people who may be struggling with their identity and are looking for support.

Sheeran’s confession has been met with an outpouring of support on social media, with many fans thanking him for his honesty and for being a positive role model for others.

One Twitter user wrote, “Ed Sheeran’s honesty about his feminine side and questioning his sexuality is so refreshing.

It’s important to have people in the public eye who challenge traditional gender roles and encourage others to be true to themselves”.

Another person tweeted, “Thank you, Ed Sheeran, for being so open and honest about your experiences.””

“You are helping to break down the stigma and create a more accepting society for all”.
